Celtic Art in Europe

The ancient Celtic art dates back to V century b.C.;

it starts declining in I century b.C. because of Romanization, which had already started for a couple of centuries.

The celtic culture survived only in British islands.

At the beginning of Middle Ages the monks started the diffusion of that culture again in ancient European Celtic countries.

All Middle Ages is characterized by a revival of northern subjects, from art to literature.

It goes without saying that the art currents developped in this period, Gothic in particulart, are the mean used to repropose the

canons and the forms of ancient Celts on a large scale.
